Blog review #4

Time for another blog review methinks. I do have loads of crafty things to show you, but that requires me to be in the same place as the sun and my digital camera, which hasn't happened yet. Fingers crossed for this evening.

Anyway, this blog review is for the marvellous Brooklyn Tweed.

This is the blog that inspired me to see yarn colours differently. The amazing Hemlock Ring blanket, which is knit using a vintage doily pattern, but in heavyweight brown wool sounds nasty when you write it down, but has actually turned out divine. Jared, you are a miracle worker, producing gorgeous garments out of unassuming yarn. Oh, and he spins too, of course!

  • Reasons to visit this blog: To make you think beyond the temptations of all the funky trendy yarn out there and take things back to basics.

  • Things to see: Lots of different knitted items, all lovingly presented and photographs

  • Favourite post at the moment: It is still the BSJ, which inspired me to make my own and I've not looked back!

Blog review #3

This is a knitting blog I adore. In fact, I don't think I have seen anything on Saartje Knits that I don't love! Saartje lives in the Netherlands, and writes in English, although I should be trying to read the Dutch bits too as I am currently in charge of cataloguing Dutch books at work.

Anyway, the blogs details all the gorgeous things Saartje makes, and includes some free patterns. I knitted Saartje's booties (pdf file) a little while ago, and they came out just perfect, and I am off to buy some Noro Kureyon to make this hat for my mum's birthday soon

  • Reasons to visit this blog: Classic designs in stunning colours and yarns. Patterns.
  • Things to see: This page of finished things I really must sort out some better photography equipment - makes my photos look dire :-(
  • Favourite post at the moment: Glove knitting (24 July 2007) - showing an absolutely beautiful entrelac cuff on a glove - I've never heard of this technique but it looks gorgeous and textural. Gloves are going on my to-do list

Blog review # 2

Just time for a quick review of a cute blog. Monkee Maker makes monkeys, and they seem to be quite amusing creatures to have around. Not a lot more I can say about this, except that it is a truly original blog, and I hope to start my own monkey family soon!

  • Reasons to visit this blog: Great fun blog, and knitting related so I can justify putting this on a craft blog
  • Things to see: Monkeys causing trouble and having fun. They're just off on holiday ...
  • Favourite post at the moment: Do blonds REALLY have more fun?

Blog review # 1

Well, I don't really have a lot of crafty things to report this week. I thought I'd start a weekly review of blogs that I read, so that I can share with you some beautiful things I see every day as I trawl through the web.

Il bloggo

Is a blog written by Hanna, who lives in Sweden and studies journalism, and spends most of her time being creative. Her blog posts are always beautiful, full of gorgeous colours and images. I try not to feel too overwhelmed by the creativity that I see here and elsewhere, but I do think I have a long way to go.

  • Reasons to visit this blog: Inspirational colours and images
  • Things to see: Art journals, crafty things, gorgeous flower photos, Smilla (particularly after she has had a shower ;-)
  • Favourite post at the moment: Mini sheeps
